Introduction to contentious topics
You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Renaming pages
Dear colleague, I had to revert your WP:cut and paste move, as it creates problems on few levels (see link for details). Procedures for renaming ("moving") pages are described in WP:MOVE. Викидим (talk) 09:27, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- No probs! Thank you for your revert. Josethewikier (talk) 09:30, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
Spelling changes
You have been making a lot of bold moves and spelling changes of Macau-related articles – sometimes with misleading edit summaries, such as saying there is a misspelling when there is only a legitimate alternative spelling. For example, you changed the spelling in the title of an article about a Canadian government institution in a way that is contrary to the way the Canadian government spells it! You're also changing spellings about Chinese government official documents in a way that is contrary to the way the Chinese government spells things. Please Stop! Consider what you are doing. These are controversial actions. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:48, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- I believe in WP:5P5 but I recognize that was very reckless of me. I will ensure not to edit controversial edits regarding this matter and I appreciate your warning. Josethewikier (talk) 20:53, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- I do want to mention that for the Chinese Government, the spelling they use are not always how it's commonly spelt in the English Language. The Communist Party of China (CPC) is almost never referred to as such in English, for example. I believe Macao/u to be another such case whereby the English common name defers from the official name. However, I do admit that I could have done this in a better way (that serves the purpose of making Wikipedia better for one and for all) and I will make sure to avoid doing this in the future. Josethewikier (talk) 20:59, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- OK, I appreciate the attitude, although I think you may be wrong about which spelling is more common in English. Google Ngram analysis disagrees. — BarrelProof (talk) 21:07, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
